Two years ago, Eddie Driskill decided to build something with Texas Longhorns. Today, he and his wife Lisa run D&D Longhorns, a ranch named for both of their families, with no hired help and no shortcuts. Just the two of them, working the ground every day.
"We just love the longhorns," Eddie says. "We are out there every day giving them treats and petting them. They are our babies."
That's not a line. It's the kind of ranch D&D is: hands-on, personal, and built by two people who do the work themselves because they want to, not because they have to.
A Name Built on Family
The ranch name itself carries that story. D&D comes from the Driskill name and Lisa's maiden name, Davis, a small detail that tells you this operation was built to last across a family, not just a season.
Eddie credits Randy Murry as one of the biggest influences on his journey in the breed. "He has become a really good friend and helps me in any way that he can," Eddie says. That kind of mentorship is common in the Longhorn world.
Genetics That Deserve a Bigger Audience
Ask Eddie what he hopes his new website will do, and the answer is direct: get people to actually look. D&D Longhorns has bloodlines that stack up with anyone, genetics tracing to Dale Hunt's breeding and back to NACC, but as a newer, smaller operation, Eddie's found that recognition doesn't come easy. It goes to breeders who already have the following.
That's exactly the gap a real website closes. It doesn't matter how a herd started. What matters is whether buyers can find it, see it, and understand what makes it worth a second look.
Eddie's favorite animal on the ranch tells that story well. Ellie Mae is the daughter of D&D's very first Longhorn, out of bloodlines from Leonard New River, and she was the first calf born on the ranch from Eddie's own breeding program. She's proof that what started as one of Jest a Cowboy's first heifers, has turned into something real.
Why Hired Hand
Eddie didn't have to look far to decide who'd build his site. "Every breeder I know is with Hired Hand, so why would we not want to go with what's obviously the best," he says.
The Bigger Picture
