Jeff and Marcia Wilson bought their first Texas Longhorn four years ago with a simple idea: a single steer, just for yard art. That idea didn’t last long. The more they learned about the breed, the more they realized a single steer wasn’t going to be enough. A cow-calf herd followed, and their passion, and their herd, has grown every year since.
The Calves Are the Reason
Ask Jeff and Marcia what they love most about the ranch, and the answer is immediate: the calves. Watching each one develop and change as it grows has become the greatest joy of the whole operation, the kind of thing that keeps them coming back to the pasture every day.
That affection shows up clearest in Riverforks Grits N Gravy, their first bull. He’s grown into an absolute giant, but he still has the personality of a teddy bear. He’ll run clear across the pasture just to greet Jeff and Marcia and get a head scratching.
A Community That Shows Up
The Wilsons are quick to credit the people who’ve helped them along the way, a list they say is almost too long to name. Based in the Southeast, they point to Jimmy Jones of Horseshoe J Longhorns, Terry and Tammy King of TK Longhorns, and Nancy Dunn of Rolling D Ranch as mentors who have always been there when they needed help, people they say they can’t thank enough.
A Fast Start
When it came to choosing a website, the Wilsons already knew what they liked. Hired Hand powered websites were always the ones they preferred when researching cattle themselves, and the team they’d met at sales and futurities over the years had always been personable and helpful. That made the decision easy.
The payoff came almost immediately. In less than two hours after their new site went live, they had an inquiry about one of their cows.
In their own words: “Everyone at Hired Hand has been excellent to work with. Angie has been so patient working with us. Angie and Molly have been there to answer all of our questions and help with creative ideas along the way.”
If you're a breeder building something worth noticing, Hired Hand Software can help make sure the people looking for what you have can actually find you.
