When Steve and Leanne Caret moved to Texas at the end of 2022, they weren't looking to start a ranch. They were looking for a home, one that needed a lot of love and care, and they found it.
Mornings That Built a Name
Every morning since, they've walked the property together. The mornings and sunsets are the kind that come with the sound of cows, donkeys, and chickens, and over time, those walks became the thing that let them watch the house slowly turn into their home. It's where they feel happiest, and where they feel loved.
"It felt like our own little palace on the prairie," Steve says. When it came time to name the farm they were building, Prairie Palace Farm was the only name that felt right.

From a Couple of Backyard Steers to a Growing Herd
What started with a couple of steers in the backyard has grown into a small herd of six, with what Steve suspects might be one more here soon. Along the way, the Caret's have gotten involved with both TLBAA and ILTA, building relationships in a community they've come to genuinely love.
Alissa Butler has been part of that journey too. The family met her while she was showing King of Hearts FHR, and Steve counts himself lucky to have her in their circle.

Willie, Wu, and Two Very Curious Dogs
Ask Steve for a favorite ranch story, and it's not really about the cattle at all, or rather, it's about the cattle and two unexpected new additions. The family brought home two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, and by pure coincidence, the dogs look almost exactly like their first two steers, Willie and Wu. Now the two pairs are often nose to nose, with the dogs licking Willie and Wu's noses right after they've been in the lick tub.
It's the kind of detail that says everything about a ranch built on affection first.

Why Hired Hand
Steve chose Hired Hand for one clear reason: the professionalism of the sites. He hopes his new website helps get the Prairie Palace Farm name out there, build relationships and trust within the Longhorn community, and yes, sell some cattle and hay along the way.
In his own words: "My heartfelt thank you to Angie, who was thoughtful, patient, and committed to ensuring our website reflects who we are and how we operate. We are beyond thrilled!"
