We’re highlighting the top 3 bulls in our bracket challenge who have earned the most lifetime views on Hired Hand Powered websites. All of the data below is taken from within Hired Hand Software and is accurate to the best of our knowledge.
#1. JP RIO GRANDE
The most viewed bull on Hired Hand websites…ever!
"Mark Hubbell was the first to show the internet in the 10-month old bull, simply because he saw the bull's dam in a Trail's Magazine ad and wanted a bull out of her. 'I called Johnnie up and asked if he had any bulls out of her (TX W Lucky Lady) and he has this one out of Grand Slam. Johnnie promised me that if I didn't like him when I got him that I could send him back.'
Mark called up Dave Hovingh and asked him if he wanted to partner on a bull and at that year's Horn Showcase Hubbell and Hovingh took possession of JP Rio Grande. Hubbell had ownership in the bull for most of Rio's life.
When they got Rio home, they measured him at approximately 12 months old and he was 33.25" TTT which at the time was remarkable. 'I ran an ad announcing his measurement. I measured him a month later and he had grown over 2" which was unheard of. So I ran another ad and updated his measurement. He kept growing about 2-2.5 inches every month so I just kept running the ad with an updated measurement.' There was great interest shown by others in the industry and before Mark knew it he had unexpectedly built a name for JP Rio Grande.
At 21 months of age and 57" TTT, JP Rio Grande finally caught the attention of Bob Loomis. 'I bought part of him as a two-year-old. At that time, he was showing tremendous horn growth for his age and he just looked like a very complete bull. In that era and at that time he was one of the bigger horned bulls at that age. And, you know, he's on the pedigree of a lot of the bulls that have gone on to surpass him.'
'I have several 80" daughters of his, and one 90" cow at the time which is the biggest horned cow in the breed and she produced the biggest horned bull in the breed and then we have other daughters that will hit 90" before long. He's left a tremendous impact on my herd.'
Loomis added that JP Rio Grande was used on a lot of great cows, being partnered on through the years not only with Hovingh and Hubbell, but also Bill Hudson and Joe Valentine. Toward the end of his career he was owned by John Harman and Chris Clark, then Clark, Brett Krause and John Randolph.
Mark explained his enduring use of the bull, 'Rio was real good at taking a high horned cow and flattening out that horn which gave you more tip-to-tip. He did it on a consistent basis.' Hubbell adds, 'I kept him for as long as I did because I never found another bull that could produce the high quality that he did at such a great percentage of the time.'
Loomis and Hubbell agree that JP Rio Grande's impact on the Longhorn breed will continue to be seen for generations to come."

“Chex sells. By Chex, we mean Cowboy Tuff Chex, a Guinness World Record-holding longhorn that was bought for $165,000 at an auction at the Fort Worth Stockyards on Friday night. According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, his horns are the longest in the world for a bull, measuring 101 inches from tip to tip. To put Chex’s long horns in perspective, that’s nearly a foot-and-a-half longer than Hakeem Olajuwon.” - Texas Monthly, September 26, 2017 (Record-Setting Longhorn, Cowboy Tuff Chex, Sells for Six Figures at Fort Worth Auction)
#3. WS JAMAKIZM
“WS Jamakizm has to be considered one of (if not) the most complete Longhorn bulls of today. With his stunning black brindle coloring to his massive body. Oh, and he doesn’t sacrifice horn either. With his over 81 ½" T2T spread the air is thin at this level. He is widely used in AI programs around the country.” - Texas Longhorn Cattle Talk, Facebook

Brian Brett, Brett Ranch Longhorns had this to say about Jamakizm “Will always be my favorite bull. Greatly influenced my herd forever. Has come into his own. A producer of great bulls and the leader in 90" TTT females.” You can view Brian’s line bred Jamakizm herd here.
“Jamakizm by Shadowizm added the dark minimal-white pattern with consistent brindle. His body is one of the tallest and longest of modern TL sires. His greatness comes from the strength to sire great males and females which few other bulls can do. Jamakizm is a great contributor to modern value genetics.” - Dickinson Cattle Co
