Read on for the 10 elements you need to have on your small business website homepage to create an easy and pleasant experience for your website viewers and to help increase communication with potential customers.
Start with the solution your business offers your customers. How will you help them? Be specific and highlight the unique benefits and qualities of your business.
Give them reasons to trust you. Providing trust elements can include social proof, customer reviews and testimonials, and examples of your work.
Create at least one call-to-action. Help them get started in working with you and make it easy. A button to 'learn more', social links for them to follow you, an email subscription form to sign up for more info and specials.
Don’t hide your contact information. Make sure there is always an obvious way to reach you. Whether that's social links where they can message you on Facebook, an email address, or a phone number for them to call. Encourage texting if that is your preferred form of communication.
Include images and video to avoid having a homepage that is too text heavy. Images, and even better videos, will grab the attention of the potential customer and typically cause them to spend more time on your website than if you just have a bunch of text.
If you offer multiple services, lay them all out. Make sure your website visitor can easily and quickly see everything you can offer them. You don't want to push one service too hard and then miss out on customers because they were looking for another service and didn't even realize you could help them.
Make sure it’s mobile-friendly. Your website needs to have a responsive design with quick load elements. It's become common practice in 2020 to have a website that automatically adjusts to different screen sizes. Having a website that won't adjust it's design based on the device the viewer is using is a big reason someone won't stay and look at your website. Another plus of having a responsive design is that Google will rank your site higher in searches if it’s mobile-friendly.
Build clear pathways. Your website should be easy to navigate. Make it easy for all types of customers to easily look and understand where the menu is and how to contact you. If your website is too busy or has a confusing layout, that is something that will deter away visitors.
Offer a menu of resources. A clear menu at the top of your page makes it easy for people to find what they're looking for. Don't go crazy with sub menus. If you have a lot of detailed information about a topic, consider laying it out in a downloadable document or create a button for the visitor to contact you for more information on a specific service.
If you're selling a product online, make sure your shop is easily accessible and visible. A simple 'Shop' button or product images will do just fine. Quick and easy access will increase the odds of a purchase during that site visit.
