From the Pasture with Hired Hand, Episode 11: Branding.
In this episode, we talked with Nathan Jones from Wild Serenade Ranch who raises Registered Texas Longhorns and Quarter Horses in Indiana. Along with raising Longhorns and Horses, Nathan is a full-time farrier, specializing in shoeing performance horses and is also an NRHA Non-Pro Rider. With all of his knowledge in both industries, he has developed many skills, one of them being branding. Listen to what works best for him and other tips he has to help make your branding experience a positive one.
Left side or right side, hot branding or freeze branding, iron or electric, chute or roping? Your brand is your cow's identification and mark of ranch ownership. In some areas, branding can be necessary to help identify and certify animals being sold. Longhorns hold a long tradition of branding and we loved hearing about the work that goes into the process from Nathan.
