How much does Hired Hand cost?

Is Hired Hand only for those breeders affiliated with one specific registry or organization?
No. Any longhorn breeder, or anyone wanting to have a website, can become a Hired Hand customer. Hired Hand is not affiliated with or owned by any registry or organization. We are proud to have various sizes of breeders with all affiliations as our customers.
Is Hired Hand the same as the existing software used by cattle breeders to manage their herds?
No. Hired Hand is web based software that allows you not only to manage your herds but also update your website simultaneously. Hired Hand is designed to save you valuable time. Through Hired Hand your animal records are accessible from any computer with internet access.
There are numerous options for utilizing Hired Hand if you are also using another animal management software program.
- Export your updates from your current software to your computer. Import that file into Hired Hand so that you do not have to make duplicate updates to your records or website. Please contact technical support for correct file formats and proper upload instructions.
- Many breeders like the fact that Hired Hand tracks similar animal information as existing software and is accesible from any computer with internet access. They also like the fact that they can update their records and website at the same time, while being able to keep some information private if they so choose. Those breeders have switched from their exisiting software over to using Hired Hand to update their website and also manage their herds.
Is Hired Hand trying to replace the existing Longhorn registries?
No. Hired Hand is website marketing and animal management software. We work with the registries to obtain cattle records at the customers request. Our overall goal is to provide you with a top of the line website for your cattle. Hired Hand has no plans to become anything more than website marketing and management software. What exactly am I getting for my monthly fee with Hired Hand?
With Hired Hand software you're getting your website securely hosted; access to a custom designed content management system to update your website; access to our animal management system housing over 22,000 animals (and growing) with interactive pedigrees and photos; 2 hrs./month of our world-class technical support (if needed). Each customer also receives a monthly report on their site statistics including number of unique visits, which pages are being viewed the most, how people found your site, etc. Our average customer also sees an increased number of hits each month due to the networking involved in our pedigrees.
Hired Hand offers more than simple web hosting or a general way to update your site, we offer a complete website package for marketing your Longhorns.

Promoting Your Animals

How many animals can I add to my site?
You may add as many animals as you like. Please note that pricing varies based on the number of animals you actively promote on your site ("Active" animals). However, you will not be charged extra for reference animals you enter into the system.

What is the difference between an "active" animal and a "reference" animal?
Active Animals:
- These are animals you are actively promoting on your website. These animals display on your category (Bull, Calves, Cows...) pages and are available to be searched for on your website. These animals also have all of the informational tabs available.
- Pricing is partially based on the number of animals you promote on your site. See Pricing for additional details.
Reference Animals:
- Reference animals are used to fill out an animal's pedigree. They will not show in search results nor on your category pages.
- You may add as many reference animals to the site as you would like. You are not charged for reference animals.
How many generations can I add for an animal?
There is no limit to the number of generations you may enter for an animal's pedigree.
Do I have to manually enter all my animals and their pedigrees into the system?
No, you do not have to manually enter the animals. For those not wanting to enter their animal information manually, here are a few options:

* If you provide us your animal information in an Excel file*, we can import the information for you. This import process can update existing animal information as well as insert new animals. Contact our Support department for more information.
*You can request an electronic herd file from the TLBAA. The cost is $15 billed by the TLBAA and they will email Hired Hand your file.
* You can request paperwork from the ITLA. They will mail the paperwork to Hired Hand. Please note, due to the input method of this option, additional charges may encure.
* For users unable to provide animal information in an Excel format, our staff will be more than happy to help you enter your animal information. Contact our Sales department for more information
* An Excel file can be obtained from most cattle tracking software

Converting Your Current Website:

I just redid my website and I really like how it looks. Is it possible to use Hired Hand and use the same design as I am using on my current site?
Yes, Hired Hand is able to maintain your current site design as long as you own the design. Contact our Sales department for pricing on a site conversion.
If I already have a website, can I sign up for Hired Hand and keep my website address?
Yes, you can sign up for Hired Hand and keep your current website address. Once you've signed up for a Hired Hand site, we will simply redirect your website to point to the Hired Hand system. Hired Hand staff will be happy to walk you through this process.
